A Place to Dream – Styling Childrens Bedrooms with French Antiques

Transforming childrens bedrooms into spaces of whimsy and imagination is one of the joys of  interior decorating. There are many considerations, but striking a balance between practicality and whimsy will likely set you en route to success. It is, of course, especially soulful with the incorporation of fun and antiques. Add some beautiful fabrics and an eye-catching wallpaper and you will have a space where dreams can come to life.

Here Wallrocks feature a beautiful client home, where a tween’s bedroom was transformed from a white walled box, into a place where she could dream. Life was brought back into the room with the pretty wallpaper scattered intermittently with gold butterflies. The pair of antique benches, once yellowed with a bright yellow and pink stripe were lovingly restored and upholstered in a blue herringbone weave.

A French oak desk that was looking rather dark and dingy, was gently cleaned back and paired with a re-upholstered antique stool.

The final but by no means insignificant touch was put on the room with the introduction of a 19th century French Louis XVI bed. Hand-decorated and beautifully upholstered with a contrasting trim for a pop of colour.

We have many beautiful pieces within our collection that can add timeless charm and will stand up to the physical challenges of growing children.

A 19th century French bed coronet is the perfect centrepiece for an interesting space. Dressed with the right fabric it can be either elegant or fun, suspended above the bed on a wall or hanging directly from the ceiling. Fabrics can feature playful patterns such as woodland animals, fairy tales, or hot air balloons or alternatively, choose softer pastels or vibrant hues to complement your child’s personality and the room’s overall aesthetic.
