Wallrocks take great pride in offering the finest 18th and 19th century genuine antique bookcases across Australia. With an eclectic collection ranging from Louis XV, Louis XVI, Empire, French Provincial and Art Deco, in a variety of styles, we can help furnish your study, library, living room or office with a unique but practical antique bookcase of high quality.
Bookcases, also referred to as Bibliotheque, have been in existence for centuries, and date back to the Roman times. Typically they had horizontal shelves for storing books, frequently with glazed or closed in doors to protect from dust or moisture. Ranging from small table height to larger pieces reaching up to the ceiling, they are a beautiful addition to any home, and best of all you can take them with you when you move house. One of our favourite and most popular pieces is the small revolving bookcase. Standing as tall as a side table, these condensed antique bookcases are an attractive addition to any compact area such as a home office, or professional chambers.
We are always very excited to find a good quality antique revolving bookcase on our travels, and whilst standard in design, each has its own unique characteristics whether it be an inlaid top, a brass gallery or a square platform base. A central iron mechanism is important for weighting and integrity. For the larger homes and offices, we have antique bookcases in a multitude of sizes and styles to suit most tastes, from fine marquetry and ormolu bookcases to the smaller decorated French Provincial bookcases.
Our antique bookcases are hand sourced from overseas in original condition, which helps us to establish absolute authenticity. On arrival in Brisbane, each piece is then respectfully restored in our on site workroom to specific client requirements. Please take some time to browse our collection.
