To assist with furnishing some of Australia’s most beautiful homes is undoubtedly one of the great joys of being an antique dealer.

It was with great pleasure we agreed to assist the owners of Windermere House in Ascot to furnish the formal rooms of this magnificent Queenslander several years ago – the third time in four decades.

From an antique dealers perspective, we revelled in the history, the scale of the property, the beautiful and ornate detailing…it was a perfect canvas for outstanding 19th century furniture! The recent sale of the home has allowed us to again present some of the rare and beautiful quality pieces from the house. Below you can…

Windermere was listed on the Queensland Heritage Register on 21 October 1992 and was noted as being “an excellent example of the type of home built for the prominent families during the 1880s boom period.” The property has a six-bedroom residence with secure triple garage, plus a north-south floodlit tennis court in the front yard, a swimming pool and spa surrounded by leafy, established grounds and a commercial-grade kitchen.

The recent sale of the home has allowed us to again present some of the rare and beautiful quality pieces from the house.

Some of the notable pieces include:

  • An exceptional 19th century French Louis XV gilded oval mirror, the central original mirror bordered by pierced carvings embellished with flowers, cherubs and leaves;
  • An exceptional 19th century English mahogany late Regency extension table, the four original leaves with matching figured mahogany in superb condition with brass mounted frieze, supported on a split pedestal extending base terminating on original brass castors;
  • A set of twelve fine 19th century French Louis XV parcel gilt oak dining chairs, the finely carved backs in the form of flowers and leaves join an upholstered panel and seat supported on cabriole legs;
  • An exceptional pair 19th century French Second Empire pier cabinets, the beautiful original marble tops above panelled doors with fine brass and Mother-of-Pearl inlay, which opens to reveal a fitted mahogany interior.
