It is well-established that fine antique furniture can and is used in classic, modern and contemporary interiors. The disruption and uncertainty of the last year has made them far more desirable across the world.
But can exceptional antique furniture work in a bathroom??
In our opinion, one of the characteristics of quality antique furniture is versatility. A beautifully crafted piece – marquetry, ormolu, beautiful timbers – can work in a number of different settings.

It can work in an entry, in a dining room, a sitting room, and a bedroom.
And yes, it can work in a bathroom.
The piece is an exceptional 19th century French antique marquetry commode, of small proportion with ormolu mounts. The original conglomerate shaped marble top with a well-executed edge moulding, above an unusually well shaped pair of drawers and two full length drawers. Each drawer has a central parquetry satinwood panel beautifully inlaid with scrolling leaves and flower, the two long drawers centred with complex inlaid escutcheons. The shaped bombe sides are similarly panelled and inlaid, all raised on well-shaped cabriole legs. The whole piece is heavily cross-banded in kingwood and richly embellished with high quality ormolu mounts.
It is dated circa 1875 and the dimensions are 780mm wide x 470mm deep x 900mm high.
This piece is of exceptional quality and is clearly out of a very fine home or Parisian apartment!
