French Antiques Brisbane

Our new shipment of fine quality antiques has just arrived into Brisbane and we couldn’t be more thrilled with the quality and eclecticism of this container. Covering many miles through the dead of a European winter is no small feat in the dark, cold and often driving rain and fog, however when the pieces land in Australia and the box is opened, it is a little like Christmas in June and Santa has just arrived with French antiques in Brisbane.

This container was cherry-picked by us and has some of the very best French antiques Brisbane has on offer. The result is a wonderfully eclectic mix, ranging from French Country, Mid Century Modern, Louis XV & XVI to English Regency and includes architectural antiques, French and English lighting, French provincial dining tables, country dining chairs, mirrors, side cabinets and more.

We were fortunate enough to come across pieces attributed to some prolific 19th century designers – Holland and Sons, Baldock & Corbisier, to name a few. The full collection is all now largely online however below is just a taste of a few of our favourite informal pieces.

We love this elegant pair of good quality mid century brass & glass tables, circa 1920/1930. Pieces such as these are becoming increasingly difficult to find of this quality, thus making them highly sort after internationally – we were fortunate to cross paths with these gems and while in original condition and needing a little bit of TLC by us – they will be magnificent. It is rare to find an original staircase balustrade of this quality and scale. The original moulded timber rail above scrolling foliate wrought iron and in excellent original condition. Too good to leave with the house when it eventually sells, you’d have to take it out for sale.

We envisage this 18th century English North Country Oak dresser base with perhaps some modern art hung above. It would not be out of place in a more contemporary setting – mixing the old with the new always makes for a more eclectic, interesting interior.

This 19th century provincial extension table is of exceptional quality. The piece can be finished in a range of different ways, polished, stripped and bleached to achieve a light white-ish appearance or stained to a neutral brown. When closed, the table measures 1.6m in diameter, extending to 4.5m to accommodate more guests.

This was such a special find – an exquisite 19th century regency table cabinet with gilded leather exterior & four tiny drawers, two of which reveal a drawing & sewing kit. It was a lovely surprise to notice the faint scent of camphor upon opening the drawers – which was often used to help preserve items that were being stored of long period of time and keeps the insects away.

This late 19th century French wrought iron and baccarat crystal chandelier is good original condition, and would look spectacular hanging over a dining table – we will find it hard to part with this one! It makes quite the statement.

We will shortly be putting together a collection of some of our favourite formal pieces that have recently arrived, so expect to see more of our newly acquired gems very soon. In the meantime, if you have any queries regarding the pieces above, please don’t hesitate to contact us in store to view French antiques Brisbane.
