How to Create a French Provincial Inspired Bedroom – Read on for our Tips, Tricks and Advice
Never out of fashion, always elegant and classic. The French Provincial bedroom is one that rarely falls out of favour. For those of us led by classic and elegant design, there is not better way to go. The relaxed design of French Provincial decorating is perfect for the Australian lifestyle. With it’s warmth and softness, this particular look is perfect for the bedroom. Read our suggestions for how to create that exquisite French Provincial charm.
FRENCH PROVINCIAL COLOURS
When selecting colours, think gentle tones that bring a warmth & comfort. Whites are always an excellent choice, but rather than a stark, bright white, lean more towards the creamy tones like ivory or ecru.
When introducing other colours to the palette, take inspiration from nature – soft sage green, pale yellow, lavender, misty grey & dusky pink are all in keeping with that calming, elegant, French Provincial feel. Don’t be afraid of adding little pops of natural colour.
FRENCH PROVINCIAL FABRICS
Whilst we suggest keeping the colour palette fairly subdued, the French Provincial bedroom is certainly not dull. Layering fabrics with a variety of decadent textures brings added interest, and also assists in creating a room that is both comfortable & elegant.
When selecting textiles, turn to luxurious natural fibres such as linen and cotton – and don’t forget the finishing touches, such as a sumptuous woollen knitted throw for the end of the bed, and scatter cushions with a hint of pattern or texture.
FRENCH PROVINCIAL FURNITURE
Regardless of how large your bedroom is, your bed will be the focal piece of furniture. With it’s fine gilded floral carvings & boat shaped end, this 19th century French Provincial Louis XV bed would make a wonderful central piece from which to to build on with this elegant pair of decorated bedside tables. A PLACE TO RETIRE TO
The French take great pride in allowing themselves time to rest & rejuvenate, so it only seems appropriate to devote a small space to practice the art of relaxation. Reupholstered in a gorgeous textured linen, this 19th century French provincial Louis XV chaise would be the perfect spot to curl up with a good book & cup of tea.
THE BEDSIDE TABLES
You can also bring a touch of French elegance with bedsides & commodes that feature cabriole legs or soft curves. This pair of 19th century Provincial antique commodes would certainly add a subtle sophistication to your bedroom.
THE MIRROR
When adding the final touches, a gilded frame mirror, or delicate chandelier would not be out of place. In fact, the hint of sparkle would contrast beautifully with the natural textures of the fabrics, and soft colour palette.
Last but not least, no French Provincial bedroom would be complete without a vase of fresh flowers, being careful to keep that ‘just been picked’ look!
