French Semainier by Grohé Frères: Important 19th century French Louis XVI plum-pudding mahogany and ormolu semainier chest by Grohé Frères, the original shaped marble top above a plum-pudding chest with ebony and brass string inlaid panels flanking a cabinet enclosing seven panelled drawers with fine ormolu mounts flanked by a pair of turned fluted brass inlaid columns terminating in ormolu feet. Price includes cleaning and waxing.
Footnote: Grohe had an extensive list of notable royal and imperial commissions, including King Louis Phillipe, Napoleon III and Empress Eugenie, the duc d’Aumale, Chantilly and Madame Pelouze at Chenonceau. His work was often compared to that of Reisner, the German born brothers Jean-Michel and Guillaume began their training in Paris under Werner.
