Our Sydney Customers' Testimonials

Paul Stack, Taree, NSW

""We have thoroughly enjoyed working with Jessica and Nick during our recent house renovations. The quality and knowledge of their furniture is fabulous and the restoration work (when needed) enhanced the look and feel of every item. Our chairs are beautiful and the new upholstery magnificent. The whole interior design process was handled by Jessica professionally and for a great price. Being located outside of Queensland was not an issue with all items personally delivered, quickly and safely, by Nick. Thanks to the team at Wallrocks our home is now more beautiful than ever!""

Samuel Wilkinson - Designer, Our Place, London, UK

"Thank you Jessica and the whole team at Wallrock’s Antiques, it was an absolute pleasure working with you. Without your ability and help in tracking down specific pieces that my client required for their federation era property I would have been lost. The quality of the pieces are first rate, the service amazing and whenever I had a gap in my project, it was Wallrock’s who I rang first. The great surprise was having Nick Wallrock personally deliver the items to site and have the opportunity to talk antiques, architecture and have his experienced eye cast over what we had been up to. There is an obvious passion for quality antiques and history throughout the multiple generations of Wallrock’s Antiques."

Sydney French Provincial Antiques & Fine Furniture

French Provincial Antique Furniture Sydney

French provincial furniture, also more informally known as French country originated from the provences of France as a more simplified and relaxed version of the more sophisticated town equivalents designed for the nobility. In the same way that the stone architecture of the Russian cities was mimicked in timber in regional areas during the 18th and 19th centuries.

French provincial furniture was typically constricted from timbers such as pine, oak, fruitwood and walnut – timbers also much used for French and English country house, being both durable and more relaxed in style and form than timbers such as mhaogny, kingwood, tulipwood and other marquetry timbers.

The simplistic and less labour intensive versions of the Louis XV, Louis XVI and Rococo styles brought a new accessibility of quality furniture to regional France, but offered its own unique serene and informal style which being traditional and timeless is still very popular today.

In the height of good taste, the French believed that there should be nothing but beauty inside the home, which is why the French Provincial curved and carved decorative style is so popular and well loved, not only in France but also across the whole world.

French country, shabby chic, and ocean/Hamptons styles are all similar in some ways to French Provincial, however they all have their own unique charms. What is great about these rustic and simplistic designs is that they can be blended and matched to feature an old antique favourite in a modern setting, emphasising the luxury, quality, grace and style of each individual piece. This in itself allows old-world charm to meet contemporary chic.
